Nations Across the Globe Ban Chinese-Owned TikTok Over Some Security Concerns

According to a report by Reuters, a new U.S. legislation that would permit the White House to prohibit TikTok or other foreign-based technologies if they pose a security threat to the country, has been presented.

A China-based start-up ByteDance is banned in numerous countries because of security risks and concerns over its closeness to the Chinese government. This social media app holds data from around the world; hence governments have data privacy concerns. India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Belgium, Canada, Taiwan, the United States, European Commission, and European Parliament are a few of the countries that have banned or have proposed to ban TikTok completely or partially in their country.
